Shutta Crum, Author:
Shutta’s novel, Spitting Image, made the New York Public Library’s Children's Books, 2003: 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing as well as VOYA’s Top Shelf for Middle School Readers list. Her picture book, Fox and Fluff, won an Oppenheim Platinum Award. Her picture books have made the Bank Street College’s list of Best Books for Children and are on several state reading lists. The Bravest of the Brave (Knopf, 2005) is her seventh picture book. She is also a retired librarian, a storyteller, and an educator. Her website is www.shuttacrum.com

Tim Bowers, Illustrator: Tim’s first children’s book, The Toy Circus by Jan Wahl, was published in 1986. Since then he has illustrated more than sixteen children’s books, including the Little Whistle series by Cynthia Rylant and The Bravest of the Brave. His children’s book illustrations have received honors/awards such as the "Child Magazine" 2001 Best Children’s Book Award. Several of his books have been chosen as Junior Library Guild selections. Michelle Frey, Senior Editor, Knopf Books for Young Readers: Michelle acquires and edits books for young readers of all ages, including the #1 New York Times bestseller Eragon by Christopher Paolini, Tending to Grace by Kimberly Newton Fusco, Exploring our Solar System by Sally Ride and Tam O’Shaughnessy, Animal Sense by Diane Ackerman and illustrated by Peter Sís, and Max for President written and illustrated by Jarrett J. Krosoczka.

Tracey Adams, Agent, Adams Literary: Tracey founded Adams Literary in 2004, after nearly a decade with literary agencies McIntosh & Otis and Writers House. Prior to becoming an agent, she worked in the marketing and editorial departments of Greenwillow Books and Margaret K. McElderry Books. Workshop Presenters
Nancy Shaw
, best selling author of the Sheep in a Jeep series and Raccoon Tune, also teaches workshops about writing and getting published. Her work has won the Reading Magic and Oppenheinm Platinum awards, among other honors.

Sue Stauffacher, author of four novels including Donuthead and Harry Sue, also reviews books for the Grand Rapids Press. Her website is www.suestauffacher.com

Portfolio Critique Lottery
Ten portfolio critiques are available with Tim Bowers. You may have a portfolio or a dummy critiqued.

To be eligible for the portfolio Critique Lottery

  • Checks must be postmarked by May 2. (If you name is not chosen in the lottery, you will receive a full refund.)
  • You must be a member of SCBWI.
  • Please write "portfolio critique" on your check.
  • You may not apply for the Mentorship or the Manuscript Critique Lottery.

Bring your portfolio and dummy to the conference with you. Please do NOT mail artwork.

Manuscript Critique Lottery
A total of 20 critiques are available.

To be eligible for the Manuscript Critique Lottery

  • Manuscript must be postmarked by May 2.
  • Manuscripts must be typed and double-spaced.
  • You must be a member of SCBWI.
  • You must include the $35 critique fee. (If your name is not chosen in the lottery, you will receive a full refund.)
  • You may not apply for the Mentorship or the Portfolio Critique Lottery.

Winners of the Manuscript Critique Lottery will receive a written critique and a 10-minute meeting with either Michelle Frey or Tracey Adams.
Please indicate if you wish your critique to be with Michelle Frey or Tracey Adams.

For Michelle Fry
send the entire manuscript for picture books and magazine articles. For novels send up to 30 pages and a synopsis.

For Tracey Adams
send the entire manuscript for picture books and magazine articles. For novels send 10-15 pages and a synopsis.
