Meet Vicky Lorencen! Background information: Right now I’m enjoying my work as a full-time writer for a regional health system. I’ve also been a magazine editor, freelance writer, proofreader and college-level writing instructor. Basically, I like to make sentences. My genre of choice is middle grade novels. (I suffer from picture book writing phobia!) My husband and family are incredibly supportive of my publishing pursuits, allowing me to go to Highlights workshops, take courses through the Institute of Children’s Literature and UCLA online, and best of all, be involved with my beloved SCBWI-MI.
Prior and current involvement: I had the privilege of serving as our newsletter editor for two years and have hosted a Networks Day. The Fall 2009 conference will be my first as an Ad Com member. I’m excited to be able to give back to an organization that has done so much for me.
What I love about SCBWI Michigan: I remember reading at Open Mic during my first conference. To say I was a “bit” terrified would be like saying J.K. Rowling is a “bit” successful. But the affirmation I received afterward gave me a huge boost of confidence. It was nothing short of a turning point for me. |
